Most of the MarkSetBot Medallion plans come with cellular built in.
The cellular is provided by Twilio, which provides worldwide roaming at no additional charge. If your Bot came with a Twilio Super SIM pre-installed, it will work out of the box.
If you have any connection issues with Twilio, you can try forcing LTE to see if it helps or use "Toggle Twilio SIM" in our app:
From the dialer, input *#*#4636#*#* (*#*#INFO#*#*), Phone Information
Take screenshot of current settings and then switch to "LTE only". Do not hit the back button, hit the menu button to save.
If you install a Twilio Super SIM yourself, you need to manually setup the SIM with the following steps:
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network
- Enable Roaming
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network > Access point names
- Tap the menu or + icon to create an access point.
- Enter Twilio under Name and enter super under APN.
- Input the MCC, MNC, and MVNO Type in the first row of the table below
- Tap the three dots and select Save
- Repeat steps 4 -7 for each line below
- Wait 10 seconds to see if it worked. If it doesn't, reboot the tablet
If you would like to provide your own SIM, here are some things to consider:
It is often most reasonable to add an extra SIM to your existing data plan. It is often $10 - $15/month to add data lines that share your existing data bucket.
A bot typically uses less than 10MB/month
If you have more than one bot, you should consider plans from Google Fi or Three UK.
Google Fi (https://fi.google.com) is $20 to start but that amount entitles you to have between 1 to 5 devices at not additional cost. You get one primary SIM (called Talk/Text/Data) and then order up to 4 Data Only SIMs. So, if you have more than 1 bot, it starts to make financial sense. We have had good experience with roaming internationally with Google Fi. You can also tie multiple accounts together and get even bigger discounts. For example, 6 accounts tied together would cost $95 and would get you a total of 30 SIMs, which works out to $3.16/month/bot. You can also pause the service for up to 3 months.
NOTE: You can only order Google Fi in the US. That being said, if you rent one of our bots, you can ask that we include a Google Fi SIM.
Three UK has a consumption service where you can buy 12months/12GB for $45 or 3months/3GB for $18.
NOTE: In some countries we have seem problems with these SIMs struggling to get a data connection when roaming. You often have to manually set the APN for the roaming partners network
Since the bots don't consume much data, those plans work out to between $4/bot/month and $6/bot/month.
